　　Ladies and Gentlemen:

　　My name is Tiffany, a Year 2 student from the University of Macau. I am currently an active member of the university Public Speaking Team, president of the Honours College Student Association, and also the vice president of the event department in Marketing Society. I am very active and outgoing. I enjoy being with people, engaged in conversations with them so that I can understand them more. I like public speaking as it can help increase my self-esteem and self-confidence. Aside from public speaking, I am also good at English recitation. I have joined the Macao-wide English Individual Recitation for a number of times when I was studying in the secondary school.

　　Imagine a car without a steering wheel. Tough to imagine, right? Well, actually that’s the image you see if a person has no faith. Faith helps to guide us in our lives, encourage us to persist, and give directions when we are lost.

　　In this peaceful era, our life paths seem to be already well-planned and determined. What we have to do is to follow. Yes, we may face different sorts of challenges, but at least they are less harsh when compared to those in the past. We do not need to worry about starving to death, or how to earn enough money to buy food for our siblings and sustain our lives.

　　It is like driving from a muddy road into a highway. In the muddy road, path, you would say, as it is formed only by crossing on it many times, flattening the ground to form a smoother area so we can pass. The road is so bumpy and rough, with holes here and there and rocks lying all over. When we drive along this road, we have to be very careful, having a firm grip on the steering wheel, ready for a sudden turn or a large boulder that may appear any second. However, when we drive on a highway, everything becomes different. The road is smooth, straight, and visible. Since there is no unseen obstacle, we may lower our guard, relax a bit, and loosen our grip on the steering wheel. One may even think, if we only have to drive on a smooth straight road like this highway, why would we need a steering wheel?

　　Nevertheless, one cannot foresee the future. Accidents do happen. For example, a car may suddenly appear in front of you. At such times, if you did not have the steering wheel, how could you make a sudden turn? Just as no one could foresee the Sichuan Earthquake nor the Japan Tsunami. If the one being trapped under the debris did not have faith, he/she would not have survived until being rescued. If we did not have faith, we could not recover from our sadness and rebuild our home.

　　Faith is unique, just as happiness is. We feel happy for different reasons, we believe for different things. How can we know what we believe in? Recall the last time you are discouraged, and you felt you had lost all hopes in your life. What pulled you back into the world? What pushed you to stand up and continue to strive again? That is your faith, your belief. Faith is what makes you feel you can when others say you can’t.

　　Faith is important…, faith is vital…, faith is necessary for us to live our lives. If we do not have faith, we are like a car without a steeling wheel. We can only afford to move along a straight and smooth path, and cannot meet any challenge in our lives. One must understand that no matter how smooth the road is, it is impossible for a car to go without a steering wheel. Or, put it in another way, have you ever seen a car without a steering wheel on the road? So, act now, my friends, find out what you believe in, find out your anchor in your life, hold on to your steeling wheel of your car, drive on, and reach your destination.

　　then what is gratitude? at the moment a well-known song comes into my mind. yes, that is called heart of feel grateful. my heart is filled up with gratitude because i’m with you/your make me courageous to be myself from cradle to the grave/so now i wanna thank for destiny/i’ll cherish the flower when it blooms until falls. the poetic lyric tells us that gratitude is actually a state of mind.

　　once upon a time, the pilgrims took the may flower ship to north america. they started a new life there although a lot of difficulties and hardships they encountered. after a long-time work, they got a big harvest. the pilgrims had a feast in 1621 near *mouth, massachusetts, which is often referred to as the first thanksgiving. people show their sincere gratitude towards the god, the nature, the earth, the river, the indians and themselves. moreover the 1621 feast has become a model for the thanksgiving celebration in the united states. so we can see gratitude is an action to take.

　　how can we express our gratitude? it’s never a simple question to answer. gratitude is a rare jewel, not a piece of cake, i know. but how can we expect such big events happening now and then? how can we be ready to say thank you ahead of time? how can we always hope to be grateful to everything and everyone for their dignity and generosity? sometimes i may ask to myself. is it moral? is it honest? is it beneficial? is it necessary? or the most interesting one, is it ridiculous? ha-ha…so in my opinion, we’d better concentrate on our life’s details. keep your eyes open to your daily life. yes! a shining smile is supposed to be gratitude. a thank-you note is supposed to be gratitude. a soulful watch is supposed to be gratitude. as far as a baby’s crying on his arrival is supposed to be gratitude. and even fallen leaves in autumn are supposed to be gratitude. so the person, who stands here giving you a speech, is also showing his gratitude.

　　at last, what’s the significance of showing our gratitude? a proverb says that gratitude is the sign of noble souls. wow! until now i am not that kind of giant, but i dare to say that everyone, you and me, has the right and the duty to show our gratitude to the world, no matter rich or poor, happy or sad, young or old. only by doing so can we achieve our human ultimate concern. meanwhile it obviously helps to build up a harmonious society. under the same sky we enjoy the same sunshine and appreciate the same love due to thanking and caring each other. well, does it plato’s paradise?

　　就比如说丹尼尔.笛福写的《鲁滨逊漂流记》，这是我读的第一本名著，同样读完这本书后使我受益匪浅，使我感受到了人类的强大，书中的主人公鲁滨逊在为了自己梦想独自一人出海，而生活并不是就因为你做出了什么巨大的选择就能有所改变，出海的他首先遭遇了海盗攻击，然后好不容易逃出并获得了一些成就，就在再一次的出海遇到自然灾害并且流露到了一个荒人烟小岛，但是生活也不是完全不美好的，在他乘坐的这艘船只有他一个人活了下来并且他所流露的这座岛上有着大量的食物，使鲁滨逊在这座岛上生活了28年后才被救出。28年意味着什么，意味着一个婴儿长大*，意味着一棵小树苗长成参天大树，28年是一个普通人想都不敢想的，可他确独自一人在在岛上生活了28年。

　　看完这本书使我知道了人类在困难面前的强悍，使我懂得了坚持不懈，更使我懂得了什么叫迎难而上!

　　明代文学家吴承恩创作的名著《西游记》是我印象中最好的一本书，里面精彩的故事一直伴我成长。

　　记得小时候，爷爷经常给我讲孙悟空打妖怪的故事、有三打白骨精、真假孙悟空、西凉国逼婚……其中让我印象最深的是三调芭蕉扇：孙悟空等人路经火焰山，欲向罗刹女铁扇公主借芭蕉扇，以便通过火焰山;借不到，孙悟空只好智取。孙悟空先向灵吉菩萨借得“定风丹”，这样就不怕铁扇公主拿芭蕉扇搧他了，这是防御性的措施;然后他变成小虫子钻到铁扇公主的肚子里去，逼她交出芭蕉扇，这是很巧妙的.进攻。孙悟空有勇有谋，不过罗刹女也绝非泛泛之辈。

　　读了《西游记》后，我体会到孙悟空聪明、勇敢、乐观、除恶务尽的品性;猪八戒虽然好吃懒睡，但却憨厚淳朴;沙和尚任劳任怨;唐僧很善良但却太糊涂。

　　鲁迅曾点评《西游记》说：“孙悟空的经历反映了人的一生。人在年轻时思想活跃，敢想敢干，上天入地，无所不能，敢于蔑视任何权威，‘粪土当年万户侯’;一旦碰上钉子，栽了一个大跟头后，就会踏踏实实，一步一个脚印地去克服艰难险阻和人生中的诱惑，最终才会达到正果。”

　　书籍还能让你有喜怒哀惧哦!看到关键情节时，高兴会喜，气愤会怒，悲伤会哀，害怕会惧。

　　所以说书籍对个人的生活、学习及个人之间的情绪都有影响!

　　高尔基说过：“书籍是人类进步的阶梯。”*也说过：“饭可以一日不吃，觉可以一日不睡，书不可一日不读。”是呀，我们生活中需要精神食粮来充实自己的生活。在小时候，我总爱看没有文字只有图画的儿童画报，觉得文字单调无聊，只有小人书才能带给我快乐。

　　我经常对着小人书比划，嘴里咿咿呀呀、嘟嘟囔囔地说个不停。我最爱看一些想象力丰富的连环画，有时，还自己在房间里扮演书中的角色自娱自乐。

　　我上二年级的时候，姐姐拿着一本《笑猫日记》饶有兴趣地看。我看了看封面：唉，一只猫会有怎样的故事?于是，我千方百计的讨好姐姐，最终，我凯旋归来——得到了那本书。

　　在这五彩缤纷的故事中，充满了各种诱惑，使我爱不释手。有时我会捧着书哈哈大笑，有时我会被书中的情景感动得泪流不止，有时我又会瞪着书发呆陷入想象。《笑猫日记》里面有很多和现实不同的东西：会笑的猫，猫和老鼠会是朋友，猫能听懂人话，老鼠成精，乌龟有神功——是不是太不可思议了?有时候我等得甚至有些迫不及待了，还有时我想，杨红樱阿姨怎么不快点写呀!我都快看完了，如果看完了杨红樱阿姨还没有写出来怎么办!直到后来，我才发现其它的文字书也都很有趣呢!

　　自从我领悟到书中蕴含的趣味后，我便开始接触更多的文字书，并痴痴地喜欢上了它们。

　　《查理九世系列》、《狼王梦》、《淘气包马小跳系列》、《做好学生有点累》等等。一本本好书都深深地吸引着我，让我回味无穷。

　　《查理九世系列》讲述的是：主人公墨多多和三个小伙伴及能说人话的狗——查理九世。可不要小看这条狗，它可是他们的队长老大呢!《狼王梦》这本名著又是另一个故事：母狼紫岚生出了一窝猪崽，相让其中一个孩子当上狼王，结果功亏一篑，她的孩子全死了——

　　有时中午午休我也要啃读一段时间。乘着爸爸妈妈睡着时，我也会拿出书来看，每当妈妈进来时，我就会把书塞到枕头下面，开始装睡。终于有一天，妈妈识破了我的把戏，并告诉我：“看书是好事，可也应该劳逸结合，不好好睡觉可不行!”

　　现在我已经升到四年级了，学习也越来越紧张，比赛也越来越多，但我还是抽出点时间来读书，开阔我的视野，增长我的课外知识。好书伴我成长，书已经成为我生活中最亲密的朋友之一了，我一天也离不开它，它让我明白了许多做人的道理，书是我最好的良师益友，我将伴书一起成长。

　　今天我跟大家分享的题目是《爱在左，责任在右》。

　　太阳的责任是照亮黑暗，雨的责任是滋润大地，花儿的责任是衬托世界。作为教师的我们，责任是什么呢?说到责任，我总会有一种沉甸甸的感受。因为作为一名教师，我们所背负的是孩子的一切。

　　家长们把孩子托付给我们，孩子们毫无保留的信任我们，面对家长们信任的目光，面对孩子们天真的眼光，我们不得不小心翼翼，慎重对待。一个有教育责任感的教师，除了对学生负责，对其它事情也是负责的。对大事负责，对小事也负责。因此做好每天该做的事情，就是一名教师的责任!

　　老师在校一天，就要肩负一天的责任。每天清晨醒来，在心里给自己一天的责任列个清单。这个责任可能是上好一节课，批改好每一份作业，亦或是放学时送每位孩子到指定地点。责任有很多，而责任不应区分大小。把每个应尽的责任做好，便是完美的完成一件事情。

　　前人云：德高为师，身正为范。众所周知，小孩子的模仿能力是很强的，当小孩子来到这个世界上时他们是纯洁的一张白纸，我们必须小心的对待我们所画上的每一笔，作为老师，引导教育好孩子，我们责无旁贷。责任是爱心的衍生物。身为教师，个人素质直接影响着学生的学风和校风，教师的形象直接关系着学生素能的培养。

　　教师的言行举止，言谈风貌会对学生产生润物细无声效果。如今我也是一名孩子的母亲，生活中每每都是谨言慎行，生怕自己的一不小心便给孩子带来不好的影响，夜晚躺下，也会为孩子的将来忧心忡忡，总是想为孩子做好一切准备，总是希望自己的孩子能变成最好的那个，希望孩子以后的人生只有快乐再无烦恼。每天看着女儿点点滴滴的变化，心理充满了激动。

　　我想，每天会有多少像我一样的母亲在分享孩子成长的快乐?亦或是焦虑孩子的止步不前，孩子们周而复始的求学之路，牵动的是多少带着期盼的母亲的心哪。当我想推卸自己的责任时，我就想：这个孩子的母亲应该也和我一样，希望孩子的老师能够爱他，对他负责;当他受委屈时，也希望老师能够像妈妈一样摸着他的头，安慰他吧。这种念头便会驱使我尽力把学生的每件小事做细、做好。

　　一名责任感强的教师，是一名不断学习，不断进取，不断充电的教师;是一名给学生一碗水，自己要准备一桶水，学习不止的教师。是一名只讲奉献，不求索取，爱生如子、爱校如家，困难面前不低头的教师。

　　一名责任感强的教师，是一名时时处处对学生负责、对家长负责、对社会负责，同时也是一位对自己、对家人、对亲友负责的教师。

　　很多人并不理解当老师的辛劳，认为老师是一个轻松的职业。每天就那么几节课，还有令所有人羡慕不已的寒暑假。其实只有从事了教师工作的人才能真正体会到这份工作的辛苦。“老师吃得是良心饭!”这句朴实的话语道出了教师精神的实质。

　　是啊!在这个*凡的世界里，我们需要英雄，但我们更需要千千万万，实实在在，脚踏实地于*凡岗位的有责任心的人。教师，固然有着别人无法理解的艰辛，但她也同样有着别人无法体会到的幸福!

　　在每个人的心灵深处都珍藏着一份信念鼓励你走向成功。因为只有了信念，才能拔起擎天的巨木，才能升腾冷漠的生命，才能裸露许多灵魂，以及在长长的黑夜袭来时也有耐心期待天光。

　　美国纽约历史上的第一位黑人州长;罗杰罗尔斯就是凭着一个信念而成功的，罗杰罗尔斯出生在纽约声名狼藉的大沙头贫民窟，在那儿出生的孩子，长大以后很少有人获得较体面的职业，在他上小学时，他的校长皮尔保罗鼓励他说：“你将来是纽约州的州长，罗尔斯听了这话，相信了它，并且，从那天起，纽约州长就像一面旗帜，在以后的40多年间，他没有一天不按州长的身份要求自己，51岁那年，他真得成了纽约州长，罗杰罗尔斯就是凭着终有一天能当上州长的信念使自己走向了成功。

　　在我上学读书的时候起，看见老师站在讲台上给我们讲课，就开始觉得教师这一职业多么的令人向往，将来我要是能当一名教师那该多好啊。在中学毕业后，由于种种原因，我走进了宜昌市水利电力学校，曾一度后悔过，可后来，还是让我走上了这神圣的讲台，我难得的机会啊!

　　当我走向神圣的讲台，看着台下孩子们一双双求知的眼睛，我不由自主的产生了要当一名优秀教师的信念。在这个信念的支持下，我如饥似渴的学习，以满足一名优秀教师所需要的知识功底和教育教学功底。我参加了学历培训，拿到了我梦寐以求的"大专文凭。为了适应新世纪的教育要求，我刻苦学习了计算机，现已能较为熟练的运用多种软件，并能制作一些简单的课件，以备必要时所用。在课改来临的今天，我又多次参加新的课标培训，接受新的教育理念，并用新的教育理念来指导我现实的教育教学工作，希望使自己能走在新课改的前列。

　　要想成为一名优秀的教师不仅要有较强的业务素质，更重要的是要有颗爱心。作为老师，在学校的身份是多重的，既是知识的引导者，又是学生的朋友，更要像慈爱的母亲那样去关心他们，因为在他们幼小的心里母爱是一缕阳光，让他的心灵即使在寒冷的冬天也能感到春天般的温暖，让他们的灵魂即使遇到电闪雷鸣依然仁厚宽广。在他们生病的时候，我会毫不犹豫的骑上车送他们去看医生。对待同学的错误时，我往往最先考虑的也是学生的自尊，以学生最能接受的方式来进行处理，对他们动之以情，晓之以理，让他们改正错误，走向成功。在我这颗爱心的浇灌下，终于得到了同学们的认可，在全校组织的”最满意教师“的评比活动中，全班64名学生都对我投上了最满意的一票。这使我倍感欣慰。

　　Ladies and Gentlemen: Good morning!

　　I am very happy to participate in this English Summer Program because it helps me to improve my oral English.

　　Each day I arrive early for class; and sit in the first row which is nearest to the teacher so that I can hear the teacher clearly.

　　I have attended every class, not missed a single one, only because I cherish this opportunity to learn to speak English well.

　　Our teacher is a wonderful teacher. She speaks English slowly and clearly so that we can easily understand her. She tries hard to help us with pronunciation, intonation and rhythm and teaches us to speak English smoothly. She helps everyone with every difficult sound. She tells us stories and teaches us life skills, which will be useful to us in the future. She is very kind to us and we all love her.

　　In the beginning, many of our students were shy about standing up in front of the class to speak English, but with the help of our teacher; and with the encouragement of our teacher every one of our class can now stands up and speak English loudly.

　　Our teacher seems not to be an expert on languages. She does not tell us that the word “goodbye” originally means: ’god be with you’ or “god bless you” when we are talking about the basic expressions of saying goodbye. She does not tell us such things. She only teaches us every day English to help us to communicate with others. And that is just what I needed. So, this program has been very helpful to me.　I hope there will be more such programs in the future so that many more people can benefit from it.

　　Now, I have a dream!

　　My dream is that one day I can go to America for a Chinese Summer program to teach Americans to speak Chinese and tell them about China.

　　My dream is that Chinese and Americans understand each other better, will be good friends forever!
